Our Mission

Virginia Africa Partnership is a non-profit and non-partisan organization that aims to drive economic growth and foster sustainable development by creating a robust and mutually beneficial relationship between Virginia and Africa. Its mission focuses on several key areas:

Promoting Entrepreneurship, increasing Trade Opportunities, facilitating economic exchanges that benefit both regions. promoting STEM education , particularly among girls and youth from low-income families, Bridging Collaboration Between Educational Institutions, and strengthening partnerships between Virginia universities, particularly Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and African higher education institutions, fostering academic exchange, research collaboration, and shared knowledge. and Promoting Sister-City Relationships.

By focusing on these areas, the Virginia Africa Partnership works to create lasting wealth and enhance cross-continental relationships, benefiting both communities and contributing to broader global development.

Our Focus

Education

Virginia Africa Partnership intends to empower youth through STEM education. Our Youth Leadership & STEAM Scholarship Award aims to inspire more young people, especially girls and low-income students, to engage in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) crucial for economic growth and socio economic mobility.

US-Africa Mayor's Initiative

The US-Africa Mayors Summit is a platform that allows US and African mayors, in collaboration with the private sector, non-profit organizations, and the African diaspora, to work together to share best practices, address challenges, and leverage opportunities for innovation.

Computer For Africa

The Computer for Africa Initiative seeks to collect recyclable laptops to establish computer labs, promote digital literacy, organize summer coding camps for youth, and enhance research and distance learning. This initiative focuses on STEM-related fields and financial literacy in both Africa and Virginia.

Trade Mission

VAP aims at boosting a robust business tie between Virginia and Africa by organizing trade missions or international networking events to explore investment opportunities on both side of the Atlantic, find new partners or increase their sales

TELeleHealth

This initiative allows doctors and nurses from the African diaspora in Virginia to provide free medical consultations in rural areas in Africa working in collaboration with local medical professionals.

FinED - Entrepreneurship

VAP FinEd program intends to provide financial literacy to help underserved individuals navigate the financial system as it exists, build financial capabilities, create long lasting impact and contribute to the economic growth of their communities

2025 VAP STEAM SCHOLARSHIP GALA

This second annual STEAM Scholarship Gala is VAP’s foremost fundraising initiative, supporting youth STEAM education, outreach and scholarship for talented low-income minority and disadvantages talented students.

Since 2023, VAP has proudly awarded over 10 scholarships to exceptional high school graduates dedicated to pursuing studies in STEAM fields. These promising young leaders are on a path to impactful careers, fostering innovation and driving economic mobility in their communities.

2025 VAP Youth Leadership & STEAM Scholarship Award

The Virginia Africa Partnership (VAP) Youth Leadership & STEAM Scholarship Award is an initiative dedicated to celebrating talented students committed to pursuing STEAM-related studies in college. It aims to inspire more youth—particularly girls, low-income minorities, and disadvantaged students—to embrace these promising fields.
Launched in 2022, the VAP Youth Leadership & STEAM Scholarship Award has, thanks to the generous contributions of our donors and members, awarded more than 10 scholarships to outstanding students. The inspiring testimonies of these students and their families motivate us to do even more.
This year, with your continued support, we aim to double the number of awardees and make an even greater impact.
